The Big Build

From Horses to Hardtails:
The ongoing saga of 500 Acres

Write a tagline or short description

Wesley Woods Christian Camp and Retreat Center made a very difficult decision to eliminate their long running, progressive horsemanship, equestrian program. Rock Solid was asked to help fill part of that void by introducing a beginner MTB camp to the summer program......Oh, AND build miles of trail while refurbishing old horse trails...Challenge Accepted.

Challenge

The Horse to Hardtail Project involves many key elements, required to find a balance for optimal land manager usage.
  1. Re-Purpose as much of the old hiking and horse trails as possible.
  2. Re-Establish positive land use following the massive timber harvest.
  3. Use as much of the remaining canopy as possible to minimize maintenance needs.
  4. Create an "outer ring" of the property to be used as a course for multi-sport endurance events.
  5. Design and create increasing trail difficulties to be used by a progressive camp concept.
  6. Make the trails welcoming and user friendly to various summer groups

A Multifaceted Project
